Why your TikTok download still has a watermark (and how to fix it)

If the file you just downloaded still shows the TikTok logo bouncing in the corner, you used the wrong extraction method. TikTok's CDN serves two versions of every video: one with the watermark baked in (for embeds) and one clean original. Here's how to get the clean one.

Common causes

TikTok's built-in save button always embeds the watermark - that's the point, it's free promotion for them. You have to use an external tool like ttok.com that extracts the pre-watermark source.

Rarely, creators flag a video as 'no reposting' in TikTok's settings and only the watermarked version is served publicly. In that case, even ttok.com can only return the watermarked file. Respect the creator's choice.

If you downloaded the same video weeks ago with watermark and your browser served the cached file, force-refresh ttok.com (Ctrl+Shift+R on desktop, or clear site data on mobile), then try again.

Related questions

Does TTOK always remove the watermark?
Yes, when the source clean video is available. Roughly 98% of public TikToks. A small minority restrict external extraction.
Is it legal to download without the watermark?
Downloading for personal use is generally fine. Republishing someone else's content - watermark or not - is still copyright infringement unless you have permission.
