TikTok video saved but there's no sound

You downloaded a TikTok and the video plays but you hear nothing? That's almost always a codec or player issue, not a missing audio track. The audio is in the file - your player just can't read it. Here's how to confirm and fix.

Common causes

iOS Photos respects the ringer switch. If your iPhone is on silent, videos in Photos play muted even if they have audio. Flip the ringer switch on or tap the speaker icon at the bottom of the video.

TikTok wraps audio as AAC inside MP4. Some older Android media players and Windows Media Player don't decode it. Open the file in VLC, MX Player, or Chrome - all three handle AAC natively.

Some TikTok slideshows have no audio track at all (just background music added at upload). If the original plays silent inside TikTok too, the download matches that - there's nothing to recover.

Related questions

Can I test if the audio track is actually in the file?
Right-click the file > Properties > Details on Windows, or use VLC's Tools > Codec Information. If there's an audio track listed, the file is fine and your player is the issue.
Does ttok.com strip audio from MP3 downloads?
No - MP3 downloads contain the audio only, on purpose. If you want audio + video, choose the Video option, not MP3.
