TikTok download not working? Here's how to fix it

When a TikTok video won't download, the issue is almost always one of four things: a private/deleted video, a rate limit from TikTok's servers, a browser blocking the request, or an outdated URL. This guide walks through each in order of likelihood.

Common causes

TikTok disables sharing on private accounts and removes deleted videos from its CDN. If the link opens a 'Video unavailable' page inside TikTok itself, no downloader can recover it. Ask the uploader for the original file or check their profile for a reposted version.

After many requests in a short window, TikTok returns an empty response to downloaders. Wait 10-15 minutes, switch networks (try mobile data if you were on Wi-Fi), or try a different video first. Our backend uses rotating proxies to minimize this but heavy traffic can still trigger it.

Links from TikTok's iOS/Android share sheet often use the vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com shortener. These work most of the time but some fail to resolve. If yours errors out, open the short link in a browser first, wait for the full URL to appear in the address bar, then paste that full URL here.

Ad-blockers and privacy extensions occasionally block the CDN that serves the final file. Disable the extension just for ttok.com, or try an incognito window. Safari on iOS is the most common offender because it blocks cross-origin downloads by default.
